Ben Cabral Dos Santos was born in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa, and came to the United States at age 11 where he quickly learned a new way of life. He has always straddled both cultures, working to find the most creative ways to assist the people of Guinea-Bissau, which is the fifth poorest nation in the world.
Ben studied at the University of California Davis, where he focused his efforts on agricultural sciences, and has developed innovative and modern methods to increase both productivity and quality of particular crop varieties necessary to quell hunger in the nation and promote nutrient sustainability.
Ben and his business partner traveled to Guinea Bissau to address the Minister of Health regarding a potential hospital build in the country; most recently, he spent six months in Guinea-Bissau exploring ways to engage and inspire the youth toward a more productive way of life.
Ben continues to have an abiding desire to highlight the cultural differences between the peoples of these two continents with the dual aim of promoting unity and illustrating how we are all alike in the human family. To this end, he constructed and opened a Primary School for preschool-aged children in Bairro Militar, Bissau. He also published a children’s book (“Growing Up African: Wotna’s Journey”) in 2021. He remains a Global Ambassador for LightWaterLife, Inc., and is the President of his agricultural holdings in Guinea Bissau.
